Lot of old Japanese boy scouts badges. The most interesting piece is the air scout wings! This badge lot is related to the memorabilia of Yorihiro Matsudaira, founder and former International Commissioner of Boy Scouts of Japan. We don’t know so much about air scouts in Japan. There was an attempt in the late 1950s and early 1960s with two experimental troops, but didn’t succeed as the WW2 heritage did not help to consolidate an attractive program for boys. By mid-1980s Itatsu Seichi, an aeronautics lover, was encouraged to create an air scout section, but chrashed again into the little enthusiasm that aroused the program and the ballast of avoiding any glimpse of possible militarized image of Japanese Scouting. The badges were never been officialized but they are some of the most beautiful example of the air scout program insignia. Thanks to Kate Matsudaira L. California for the help with information given.
